Growth, blood indices and carcass characteristics of japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica) fed cassava grit as replacement for maize with or without β-glucanase

One hundred and eighty (180) unsexed twenty-one day-old growing Japanese quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica) were fed for 28 days with diets in which maize was replaced cassava grit at 0, 25 50% or without β-glucanase supplementation. The birds randomly grouped into six treatments three replicates of ten per replicate. Diet 1 the control while 2 3 had their contents respectively. Diets 4, 5 6 same as 1, respectively but inclusion 100mg/kg. Feed water supplied ad libitum throughout period study. intake (590.98g), weight gain (93.77g) FCR (6.35) significantly (p<0.05) affected by dietary treatments. Among haematological parameters monitored RBC (4.46x10 /UI) WBC (26.52x10 Thiocynate (2.57 mg/ml), AST (290.6 U.I/L) ALT (33.6 also influenced experimental diets. Replacement quail did not have negative effect on haematology serum biochemistry birds. There however significant differences (p< 0.05) caeca length lungs statistically similar across no haematology, carcass characteristics
